Opportunities to Serve

Time is one of our most precious gifts. The ministry of the church depends on the membership not only attending worship and Church School, and being a faithful steward, but also serving in the church and community. Do you remember your first or best Church School teacher? We have over 150 teachers in our Church School and more than 100 persons who serve in the Youth Club program.

Over two hundred people participate in our music ministry. People serve on one or more committees of the church. Some adopt flower beds for their families, sponsor youth groups, volunteer in the office, fold newsletters and worship bulletins. Others give time to H.A.A.M., serve as Shepherd Group Leaders, work in mission circles, teach Bible studies and Vacation Bible School, do crafts, put on dramatic productions, assist as an "angel" in the nursery, or volunteer for mission activities. The list is endless. We could not function as a committed Christian community without these dedicated stewards.

We ask our members to worship regularly, give faithfully and accept at least one opportunity to serve during the year. Some members are nominated and elected each year to be deacons and elders of the church. After one year of church membership, you may be elected an active member of the board of deacons or session.

Responsibility to serve is also a call to witness. Sharing our faith with others is a Christian call to service. People are hungry for a spiritual life and faith development. Parents are concerned about their children.

The Presbyterian family is a place where all believers are welcome at communion, at worship or study. We are inclusive because we believe the ground around the cross is level. Our call to witness is never to be made with a feeling of superiority but of humble service. Invite a neighbor or friend to worship. Speak a positive word for Christ and your church in your casual conversation. Make your life a witness to others.
